Is the Non-Dysfunctional Family a Myth? Night Stories

I’m curious: what does a non-dysfunctional family look like? My dad was an alcoholic. He died from this damned sickness. His parents did, too. Both of them. My mom has the same addiction, plus a whole bunch of other issues. Wait—we’ll get to me and my own quirks later. But I grew up in a broken home that felt like hell. My cousins’ dad drank, too. My classmates either didn’t have fathers, or their dads had the same “talent” as mine, or they were abusers. One boy’s mom left him with a grandmother for the sake of a new husband. Another friend of mine abandoned her daughter with the father to go find a new love. And now, I’m standing guard by the bathroom so my son doesn’t waste water. I heard somewhere that this kind of control is a sign of a dysfunctional family. So, I guess I follow the same pattern now. Not because I’m stingy with the water, though. I’m here because our power grid is being shelled, electricity is hit-or-miss, and we have one 50-liter water heater for everyone. There a...

The Secrets of the Desk Drawer

Hello everyone!

Firstly, thank you for stopping by. I appreciate your attention and promise to do everything on my part so that you won’t regret visiting my blog.

Secondly, I’m creating this blog as a result of some kick in the pants: I applied for one job in Indeed, and as a requirement, I had to send a link to a blog I manage. I didn’t have it. I do now.

Thirdly, since I started my writer’s journey, I felt the urge to create my own blog with my own rules, not Medium or LinkedIn ones.

So, welcome!

This desk drawer will store my stories, thoughts, and battles. It will hold a fusion style of semi-fiction stories (and the best part - you will never know where fiction interrupts the real parts), a pinch of writing in "working-like-a-horse-days" style, and maybe some “shitty-reality” style.

Do you really need a “Who Am I” part? Tell me in the comments when you feel like knowing about me. I’ll write then.

Should Writer Have Principles?

Today, I’m going to share with you my thoughts. But before I get started, I must say that I don’t judge anyone. I’m not in your shoes, and who knows where my destiny will lead my life steps and what decisions I will have to make. The Main Principle For Everyone in This World Let me put it plainly: the fundamental principle. Moreover, if this were the main principle of humanity, we would not have problems now. And we wouldn’t find ourselves in a world where peace is guaranteed only by a nuclear bomb. So, the principle, ladies and gentlemen: do no harm. Yes, I took it from the Hippocratic oath. When I was learning to drive, during the section on first aid for drivers while waiting for an ambulance, the nurse who taught the lesson emphasized several times: do no harm! Don’t do it if you don’t know if you can apply a tourniquet correctly. Because you can kill a person. Who knew that the ability to use a tourniquet in my country would become so necessary, say more critical, in six months? B...

Don't Bend to Ever-Changing World

They were born back in 1997 in the song “One Day the World Will Bend to Us,” and I’ve been humming it ever since. Here is what I want to tell you. I’m clearly no Makarevich; I haven’t been living this life quite as long. But I’ve seen dozens of trends and even more people trying their hardest to “ride the wave” for a fleeting moment of fame. I’m not saying you shouldn’t follow trends, because that’s a personal choice. But what I’ve definitely witnessed over the years is that professionalism and mastery work much better than trying to be louder than a hype noise. As a regular LinkedIn user, my eyes are practically bleeding from seeing the same topics over and over. Or rather, one specific topic. I won’t even type its name this late at night. But no matter what, a human is still a human. A human has emotions. We can tell the same story sadly or joyfully, depending on the mood. We understand sarcasm. And it is a human who grasps the true, underlying meanings. So use your gift to be a huma...

Unobvious Web Writing Hack

In my web writing work, I’ve developed one simple rule. My hack has proven its effectiveness time and time again. Subscribe to my blog while you’re here, and in the meantime, I’ll tell you about my unobvious writing hack. Let me start with a bit of backstory. The Backstory Behind My Web Writing Hack Discovery I once had a client who was a fan of what I call “rigid SEO.” It is my category for a certain type of creative brief I receive. “Rigid SEO” is when a client demands you use keywords exactly as they are written for direct, exact-match placement, even if it’s grammatically incorrect, sounds unnatural, or feels bizarre. But a task is a task, so I got down to web content writing. After receiving a brief like this, I started gathering information. I always do so because my intuitive approach to web writing has never failed me. Once I’ve collected enough material, the core idea for the article comes to me on its own. So, I read and delved deep into the topic and opened a Google Doc to s...
